Palomino Blackwing pencil review
4 May 2014The Palomino Blackwing is a great pencil.
It’s well made and exudes quality.
The iconic cuboidal eraser works reasonably well. It’s adjustable, which personally I think is a little gimmicky but it does no harm.
The lead is smooth and dark and absolutely lovely to sketch with. It is very soft, which means a good dark line but also lots of sharpening. Of the three Palomino Blackwings (this, the 602 and the Pearl), this is the softest and darkest.
This means it’s not the best for writing as you will need to stop to sharpen it every paragraph or two. For quick and dirty sketching, though, it’s fantastic, as Friday’s sketch demonstrated.
In fact this is the pencil I’ve been finding myself picking up most often when I’ve just wanted to practise my drawing. It’s a lot of fun.
I like this pencil a lot.
looks really like a great pen!

Thanks Helena!

Yes you are. The second is lined up for Friday and the third should hopefully be up the Friday after. I haven’t finished it yet though.
Great thanks.
Blackwings are on my wishlist. I think I’d be a 602 kind of guy. I wish you could get these in singles!
Your best bet might be the Palomino sampler pack from pencils.com. Nine pencils including the three Blackwings
