I’ve been dabbling a little with silverpoint. This is what it says: drawing with a silver wire. The paper must be prepared with gesso first. The technique differed from pencil in that darker shades are built up with layering marks on top of each other rather than by pressure. This took me a little getting used to.
This is the first picture I finished using silverpoint. It’s far from perfect. There’s a gorgeous delicacy to silverpoint that I need to lean into. I started this picture with a pencil-drawing mindset but learned as I went along to leave more space between the marks.
I love how it’s come out though and I’m looking forward to further experimentation.
