Reeds I

I’m lucky enough to live near two beautiful bird reserves and one of my favourite things to do is walk through them. They’re great at any time of day but my favourite time is early in the morning when the sun is just beginning to rise. The light shines across the water and through the reeds and there’s no noise except the occasional splash from a duck.

Recently I’ve been trying to capture light with my drawings and this study is going to perhaps be the start of a series. (I’m not great at sticking with series because I get caught up with doing something new before I get very far but we’ll see.) This picture is A4 and on Bristol board, which I used so I could get crisp edges and translucency.

Ian, I love your reeds. They look so real, like I could reach out and touch that tassel waving in the breeze. And your shading is incredible. I’m like you; I get distracted easily by new projects. But I’d love to see more in this series!
