Nib is a new London-based company that handmakes delightful notebooks and cards.
Notebooks are available in A7, A6 and A5 sizes, with 32 pages in the A6 and A5 and 28 pages in the A7. There is a range of cover designs. They are only available with plain paper.
The covers are a thick 250gsm and are made from the byproducts of the beer industry. I had to ask Lydia, from Nib, what this meant! This is what she said:
The paper comes from a company in Germany who recycle malt, yeast and hops leftovers, as well as beer labels! It has a very fibrous quality, with natural flecks.
This unusual paper, combined with beautiful screenprinted designs, makes for really lovely covers.
The inner paper is smooth and white and thick (115gsm). It’s some of the best paper I’ve used for fountain pens. There was no bleeding, feathering or show through with any of the fountain pens I tried.
Ink shines on this paper. The paper is so smooth and white that the colour of your ink really comes through.
The paper is hand bound using lovely yellow thread.
A notebook like this deserves a special use and thanks to Tracy Lee I have found one. I’m using it to record when I’ve written to someone and the pen and ink I used. It’s the perfect excuse to put lots of different coloured inks onto the paper.
As well as notebooks Nib make gorgeous cards, too.
These aren’t cheap notebooks but they are made with loving care and attention to detail. They are very special.
I was sent this notebook and card for free by Nib but that isn’t an issue because I would have loved them anyway. Nib is a very young company and they are keen to get the word out about their products. As part of this, they have very generously set up a special 20% discount code for readers of Pens! Paper! Pencils! Simply enter the code “penpaperpencil” at the checkout to receive 20% off. This code is valid for a week from today (10th July to 17th July).
Those look really nice!
Yes they are really lovely!
This looks like a nice notebook and what a great use for it! Letter journals do create a unique and colorful reminder of your pen pals and friends. Glad I could plant the idea! π
