Portland Bill Lighthouse (sketch)

I used Bristol board for this picture. The very smooth surface let me get more detail. That’s not always what I’m after; often I want to see the texture of the paper and I want to lean more towards getting the idea of somewhere or something. (This is particularly the case with pets and people!) But on this occasion I enjoyed the precision the paper gave to me.

The Isle of Portland has a long history of invasion, wrecks and smuggling. It was the site of the first recorded Viking invasion of England.

You can now buy a print of this picture, as well as greeting cards with it on, over at my Etsy shop. (I’ll be writing more about this next week.)
