White Nothe (pronounced to rhyme with nose, which is what the word means) is a high point on the southern side of the Isle of Purbeck, in Dorset, on the Jurassic Coast. It’s one of my most favourite places in the world. It’s rare to hear any human generated sounds there, other than walkers passing by, and instead you can listen to the sea far below and the gulls flitting about. In the distance there’s ever present Isle of Portland, and Weymouth, and the cliffs lead away to the east and the west.
This is the view standing on White Nothe and looking east, towards Durdle Door, Lulworth cove, Kimmeridge and St Aldhelm’s Head in the far distance. If I ever feel the need to visualise a happy place, it’s sitting on that bench looking at this view.
