Exhibitions in Dorset, Somerset and Devon

I currently have pictures in three exhibitions across the southwest, with a fourth coming up soon. It’s always fantastic to have work out in the wild, which is where all art belongs. I love drawing (surprisingly) and I’d do it even if no-one ever got to see what I did but I don’t think a picture is really alive unless it’s on a wall somewhere.

The Bath Society of Artists’ 120th open exhibition is taking place at the Bath Society of Artists 120th Open Exhibition in Bath until 10 January 2026. I’ve not been to visit yet but it’s always a really fantastic exhibition with a lot of varied and high quality work. There is a charge to get in but it’s good value.

The two pictures I have there are Ella and I Must Go Down to the Sea Again.

The first ever Dorset Open is currently taking place at the County Museum and Art Gallery in Dorchester. It runs until 30 November. It’s a fairly small exhibition with a slant towards the modern but they still found room for my more traditional work. There are some really interesting pieces there. Again, you have to pay to get in to the museum but that gives you access to the whole of the museum for a year. The museum itself is excellent.

I’ve got Julia and The Isle of Portland from Ringstead Bay in this exhibition.

The South West Academy open exhibition is free to visit and is also online. It’s taking place at Kennaway House in Sidmouth until 8 November. Sidmouth is a wonderful little seaside town surrounded by beautiful countryside. I visited last year’s exhibition and it was great, a lot of high quality paintings in all kinds of styles.

My entry is All the Things You Are.

As if all this wasn’t enough to keep me busy, starting on Monday 3 November, for two weeks, I have a showcase exhibition at the Duchess of Cornwall pub in Poundbury, Dorchester. I’ll have twelve drawings there and two prints, almost all available to buy, should you so wish. I’m hoping to have a bit of time there one day to have a chat about my drawing. More info to follow!
