Basic Sketchkit
10 June 2015I want a small sketch kit that I can just grab and take with me without any fuss or bother. This is what I’m using at the moment and it’s working out pretty well.
Everything is kept in this rather splendid Nomadic PE-06 pen case.
From left to right: Daler-Rowney Artists (watercolour) Pencils; Sailor Fude DE Mannen fountain pen (with, currently, De Atramentis Archive ink); Derwent water brushes (fine and medium); Staedtler pencil sharpener; Staedtler Mars Technico 780C clutch pencil, 2mm 2B lead; Pentel Graph 1000 mechanical pencil, 0.5mm 3H lead; Caran d’Ache Technalo 779 pencils (water-soluble graphite pencils HB, B and 3B); and a Sakura Pigma Micron black brush pen; with a Staedtler Mars plastic eraser tucked in at the back. Plus a Pink Pig A6 sketchbook.
I do pretty much any kind of picture, in any situation, with setup.
That’s a really nice setup. I tend not to carry colours with me, and maybe I should – I think the little Cotman half pan sketchers set I have would work, although I guess watercolour pencils are more versatile (used dry or wet).
I’ve got a some watercolour paints in my big sketch kit 🙂 Writing that up in a couple of weeks. This setup is easy to pick up and go with.
These posts have made me realise that I may need to redefine what I think of as a “small” kit 🙂 I’m impressed by your minimalism!
Incidentally, lots of interesting ideas for small colour kits here;

I’ve never felt settled enough on a palette to carry just six colours, which seems to be the key.
Nice set up! I love the Nomadic cases and bags 🙂
