Kutsuwa Stad Sharpest Compass review

In what may well be a first for a pen blog, I present here a review of a compass.

It isn’t just a compass though. It is also a mechanical pencil. This video shows the rather groovy way the Kutsuwa Stad Sharpest Compass (that really is its name) converts from pencil to compass and back again.

Clever isn’t it?

It is an excellent compass. As a pencil, it is perfectly fine but not spectacular. It has a clip but it’s plastic and looks as if it would snap at the earliest opportunity. It’s comfortable to hold in its default position but not so comfortable if you do what you would do with a mechanical pencil (that isn’t a Uni Kuru Toga) and rotate it as you use it.

It is well made from (I think) aluminium, takes whatever 0.5mm lead you want to put in it and comes in silver, blue, green or pink versions.

I would not use this as my day to day pencil but the truth is, this is a lot better pencil than any of my pencils are compasses.
